MONTEVIDEO, Uruguay - South Korea's Korean Aerospace Industries (KAI) has offered to assemble 12 KA-1 training/Counterinsurgency aircraft in Paraguay. The KA-1 is a development of the KT-1.
The program would re quire an investment of about $130 million and would include technology transfer and training for local technicians. According to local newspaper ABC Color, the KAI proposal would be chosen instead of the Brazilian Super Tucano or Yak-130.
A similar program has been implemented in Peru with excellent results, making the Paraguayan Air Force optimistic about the project.
The KA-1 is a two-seater, turboprop aircraft powered by a 950shp Pratt & Whitney Canada PT6A-62.
The proposal has been sent to Paraguayan President Horacio Cartes for approval.
