SMALL BUSINESS PHYSICAL OPTICS WINS CONTRACT FOR F/A-18 AND EA-18 DATA TRANSFER UNITS
PATUXENT RIVER, Md. -- The U.S. Navy has awarded Physical Optics of Torrance, Calif. - a U.S. Department of Defense-designated small business - a $21.5 million firm-fixed-price modification (#P00001) to a previously awarded contract (N00019-17-C-0078) for 102 F/A-18 E/F and EA-18G data transfer units (DTUs) for the U.S. Navy and 50 DTUs for Australia. Under the terms of the partial FMS deal, associated support equipment is also included.
The contracted work will be performed in Torrance, Calif., and is expected to be completed in August 2022.
The U.S. Navy has obligated the full $21.5 million in Fiscal Year 2017 Aircraft Procurement and Foreign Military Sales (FMS) funds at the time of the award, none of which will expire at the end of the current fiscal year. Award funding is split between the U.S. Navy and the government of Australia in 71 percent ($15.3 million) and 29 percent ($6.2 million) shares, respectively.
The U.S. Naval Air Systems Command in Patuxent River, Md., is the contracting activity.
