NEW DELHI -- India has successfully conducted a test of a missile defense system. The test, which took place on September 23, included the interception of a ballistic missile threat. India is working to develop a two-layer Ballistic Missile Defence system.

The interceptor is based on the Prithvi and can engage targets in the exo-atmosphere region. The last test of the interceptor took place on February 11, 2017.
