NEW DELHI -- India wants to acquire the SPIKE anti-armor missile from Israel. This deal has been brought before India's Defence Acquisition Council (DAC) for approval. India will hold validation trials before the deal is signed.

The deal is for 170 launchers, 4,500 missiles and 15 simulators. Reportedly, the SPIKE missile did not perform as desired during previous trials. An earlier deal was cancelled after protracted negotiations.

India is working to develop its own man-portable missile. However, the Indian Army faces a huge shortage of anti-tank guided missiles. To meet its requirements, India will acquire off-the-shelf weapons.
