NEWTOWN, Conn. -- The U.S. Army's EW Development RDT&E program encompasses engineering and manufacturing development for tactical electronic warfare, signals warfare, aircraft survivability, and protection of personnel and equipment from hostile artillery, in a wide variety of subprograms. The next several years should see relatively steady funding for this RDT&E program.

Based on an estimated projection of the FY19 budget, $414 million is likely to be spent on the overall EW Development program through 2028.

Within the larger program, the Integrated Electronic Warfare System effort provides funding for the Multi-Function Electronic Warfare (MFEW) system and provides for alignment of Joint Counter Radio Controlled Improvised Explosive Devices Electronic Warfare (Joint CREW) requirements with material solutions for the IEWS system of systems.

In FY17, $3.9 million was spent on the MFEW effort to provide Army personnel with an offensive Electronic Attack, and Electronic Warfare Support (ES), and Defensive Electronic Attack (DEA) capability for a large, airborne variant payload.

Funding for MFEW rose to $20.2 million in FY18 to advance engineering and manufacturing development activities, especially for the MFEW-Air. A report on the EW Development RDT&E program is available from Forecast International.
