BARRANQUILLA, Colombia -- On the night of November 11, 2018, the Colombian Air Force National Air Defense System detected an aircraft carrying out an illicit flight over the Caribbean Sea towards Central America. Interceptor aircraft of the Combat Air Command No. 3 located in Barranquilla immediately scrambled to meet the illicit aircraft preventing the entry of this aircraft into Colombian airspace. As a result, the pilot was forced to continue his journey north, finally landing in Guatemala.
With the contribution of intelligence information from the Colombian National Navy, it was possible to determine the arrival area in the Central American country, activating the procedures with the Air Force of Guatemala, thus achieving the interdiction of this twin-engine aircraft with false registration.
Once on the ground, the crew of the illegal plane had an armed confrontation with the authorities of that country, where two members of the illegal organization were killed and one more was arrested.
As a result of the operation, 258 kilos of cocaine hydrochloride, fuel cans, two vehicles and weapons were seized.
